Image editing

Edit image files directly in the system without downloading them

With the built-in image editing feature, you can adjust selected images directly in 4ALLPORTAL – for example, crop, rotate, or convert them.

This allows you to make simple changes directly in the system without downloading the file and editing it in an external program.

To open the image editing tool, go to the detail view of an image file and select the "Edit picture" action in the toolbox:

Requirements and limitations

  • Image editing must have been enabled for your role.

  • Image editing is supported for the following file formats: JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and BMP.

  • This feature is not available for other file formats.


How to edit an image

  • Open a JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or BMP file in the detail view.

  • In the toolbox, select the "Edit picture" action Edit picture .

  • Make the desired changes.

  • Save the changes or create a new file using "Save as".


Image editing features

The image editor opens in its own "Image editing" tab in the detail view. The following options are available via the side menu:

Rotate, flip, and crop

At the top of the image editing side menu, you'll find all the tools for aligning and cropping the image:

  • Rotate Counterclockwise Rotate counterclockwise

    • The image is rotated 90° counterclockwise

  • Rotate Clockwise Rotate clockwise

    • The image is rotated 90° clockwise.

  • Flip horizontally Flip horizontally

    • The image is flipped horizontally.

  • Flip vertically Flip vertically

    • The image is flipped vertically.

  • Crop Crop Crop & aspect ratio

    • Click the "Crop" button Crop Crop to crop the image.

    • Select an aspect ratio from the "Ratio" dropdown menu, e.g., "1:1 – Square".

    • Grab the corners of the frame in the image with your mouse and drag them.

    • Select "Custom ratio" to choose your own aspect ratio.

Adjust resolution

Use the "Resolution" drop-down menu to specify the dpi (dots per inch) at which the image should be saved.
You can choose from 72, 96, 150, 300, 600, and 1200 dpi.

Adjust image size

You can manually set the specific dimensions of the image using the "Width" and "Height" fields. You can choose between pixels and millimeters.

Please note:

  • The lock icon indicates that the aspect ratio will be maintained when you adjust the height or width. The other value will be adjusted automatically.

  • The image must be at least 64 px wide and tall.

  • The width and height must not exceed the image’s original maximum dimensions.

Adjust color space and color profile

You have two options for changing the image’s color scheme:

  • Color space

    • You can choose from RGB, CMYK, grayscale and black/white.

  • Color profile

    • If a color profile is stored, you can select an ICC profile here.

    • The available options are: Original, eciRGB v2, ECI-RGB.icc, Adobe RGB (1998), ColorMatch RGB, sRGB IEC61966-2.1, Apple RGB and Generic RGB Profile

Convert

Using the "Convert to file type" dropdown menu, you can save the image as a new file type.

The available options for conversion are JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF.


Save or discard changes

The toolbox on the right offers the following options while you're editing:

  • Save

    • Overwrites the existing image with your changes.

    • A pop-up window opens, where you can optionally save the original file as a version.

  • Save as

    • Creates a new file with your changes.

    • A pop-up window opens where you can specify the save location.

  • Reset

    • Reverts all changes made to the image so far.

  • Cancel image editing

    • Exits image editing without saving.

You can combine multiple changes before saving the image.

  • Why isn't image editing available for some files?
    Image editing is only available for JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and BMP files. Additionally, the feature must be enabled for your role.
