In order to be able to use the Desktop App, a superordinate installation in the 4ALLPORTAL by an 4ALLPORTAL administrator is required.
All active 4ALLPORTAL users can then install and set up the Desktop App on their local computer.
The Desktop App can be used on Windows and Mac.
The connection requires https.
Prerequisites
The following steps are required for installation:
Install the 4App 'Desktop App' in the 4ALLPORTAL
Download and install the Desktop App on the local computer
Check the firewall rules: Allow access to 4ALLPORTAL
Connect the Desktop App to the 4ALLPORTAL (https)
Establish a file system connection (if not already present)
Please note the following compatibilities:
version 4 system:
Windows: latest version (64-bit, no ARM support)
macOS: latest version (Apple Silicon, 64-bit)
version 3 system:
Windows: Windows 7 or later (32-bit or 64-bit)
macOS: OS X El Capitan (10.11) or later (Intel or Apple Silicon)
The following requirements must be met on the local computer:
administrator rights
active user access to 4ALLPORTAL
active file system connection to the root directory (read/write)
Cloud systems or containers: WebDAV
Without container: SMB
On-premises (locally hosted): WebDAV or SMB, depending on infrastructure
Install the 4App 'Desktop App'
You need administrator rights to install the 4App.
You need access to this admin snap-in:
General system configurations > App management > Apps
The Desktop App is available as a separate 4App for Core version 3.2 or higher.
Go to the General system configurations > App management > Apps admin snap-in.
Download the 4App Desktop App (4allportal-desktop-app).
Make sure you are using the correct version for your Core version.Activate the application and restart the system.
After installing the 4App, the Desktop App can be downloaded individually by each user via their profile ('Profile > Downloads > Desktop App').
Install the Desktop App locally
To use the Desktop App, you must install it locally on your computer. You will need administrator rights on your computer to install it.
1. Download the installation file
You can find the installation file '4ALLPORTAL_Desktop' in your user profile (Profile > Downloads > Desktop App):
There is a separate installation file for each operating system. Download the right file for you by clicking on the button .
2. Install the Desktop App
Follow the steps below to install the Desktop App on your computer:
Windows
Open the installation file. An installation wizard will start automatically.
When the installation is complete, the Desktop App will start automatically.
The Desktop App icon is now on your desktop.
macOS
Launch the installation file by a right click > Open.
If a confirmation prompt appears, click 'Open'.
Drag and drop the desktop application into the Applications folder.
Optional: Move the Desktop App to the Dock.
Open the Desktop App.
You will then need to connect the Desktop App to your 4ALLPORTAL.
Connect the Desktop App to the 4ALLPORTAL
To use the Desktop App like the 4ALLPORTAL, you need to save your 4ALLPORTAL credentials in the Desktop App.
You can then log in with your regular 4ALLPORTAL login details.
Set up and activate a connection
Follow the steps below to set up your connection:
Open the Desktop App.
The connections menu will open automatically the first time you start it.
Click on the button
to create a new connection.
Choose a name for the connection (e.g. Our 4ALLPORTAL)
Enter the correct URL for your 4ALLPORTAL:
with 'https://'
without the slash '/' at the end of the URL

Click on the button
to save the connection.
Select the connection to activate it.
Clicking on 'Continue' will take you to the 4ALLPORTAL login screen and allow you to log in to the 4ALLPORTAL.
Please note
To connect, you must use the same URL that you use in your browser.
Manage connections
The connections menu is now available on the login screen of the Desktop App.
Click 'Connections' to view, (de)activate, edit or delete the existing connection or to add new connections.
Connect file system | Network share
The Desktop App opens original files. To access the file system, a file system connection in the form of a network share must be set up on the local computer.

The path and login details for the network protocol (e.g. WebDAV) are required.

The WebDAV access data is provided by the IT department or the 4ALLPORTAL system administrator.
Troubleshooting
No connection to the 4ALLPORTAL
If the connection via the Desktop App fails, or you receive the message 'Connection invalid', try the following solutions:
Make sure you are using the correct 4ALLPORTAL URL in the connections menu. It must be the same as in the browser (including https://).
Check if there is a slash '/' at the end of the URL in the connection menu and remove it if necessary.

incorrect: https://exmpl.4allportal.cloud/
Enter the URL from the connections menu in your browser to check. If the 4ALLPORTAL opens correctly, please contact your system administrator.
Ask your administrator or IT department to check if firewall rules block access to the 4ALLPORTAL.
Check if the file system connection to the root directory is correctly created and active and renew it if necessary.
