Change the sorting of the main view

How to change the default main view sorting for each module

Updated over 4 months ago

The main view shows all objects of a module, either unfiltered or limited by a search.

Above the main view, a filter area provides options for sorting the results list, for example by ‘Created on’ or ‘File Size’.

Filter area with sorting options for the main view in the Files module

The filter area for sorting the results list is individual for each module and can also be customized for each module.

Customize filter area and sorting options

You need administrator rights to make these settings.
You need access to this admin snap-in:

Administration > Module Configurations > Module > Object Renderer Sets

The filter area of a module can be customized in the corresponding module configurations in the administration area.

  1. Open the Module configurations.

  2. Select a module: From the list on the left, select the module for which you want to customize the filter area, e.g. Files. A list with module-related admin snap-ins will open.

  3. Open the Object Renderer Sets admin snap-in.

  4. Select object renderer set: From the list of available sets, select the object renderer set for which you want to customize the filter area. If you do not want to limit the change to a specific set, double-click 'default'.

  5. Open the search and subpanel settings: In the 'Object renderer for search and subpanels' panel, click button cogwheel next to 'Default'.

  6. Adjust search options: The search options are now open. Here you can view and adjust the settings for the filter area of the module.

  7. Save: Save your changes. The adjustments will be visible once a user has logged out and logged in again.

Examples

In the Files module, the main view is sorted by the 'Created on' sort field by default:

If you want to change the default, you can do so in the search options.

  1. Open the search options and navigate to field 'Default sort field'.

The value currently selected here is used in the filter area to sort the objects.

  2. Open the drop-down menu. You will see all the fields currently set as sort fields for this module (see 'Sort fields').

  3. Select the field you want to sort by, e.g. 'File size'.

  4. After saving and logging in again, the default sort order will be 'File size'.

Collections: Add, remove or re-sort sort fields

In the Collections module, users can sort by 'Created on', 'Changed on' or 'Name' by default, using the drop-down menu of sorting options:

You can add, remove or re-sort the options offered in the drop-down menu.

  1. Open the search options and navigate to field 'Sort fields'.

  2. Add:

    1. Use the open pop-up button to open a pop-up with all the fields available for this module.

    2. In the pop-up, select the fields you want to appear in the sort options drop-down menu, for example 'Created by' or 'Valid until'.

    3. The selected fields will now also be listed in field 'Sort fields'.

    4. After saving and logging in again, the newly selected fields will appear in the sort options drop-down menu.

  3. Remove:

    1. All fields listed in field 'Sort fields' can be removed by clicking the 'X'.

    2. After saving and logging in again, the removed fields will no longer appear in the sort options drop-down menu.

  4. Re-sort:

    1. All fields listed in field 'Sort fields' can be moved using drag and drop.

    2. The further left a field is in the list, the higher it will appear in the sort options drop-down menu.

    3. After saving and logging in again, the re-sorted fields will appear in their new order.
