With mass change, you can select multiple files and add, overwrite, or delete metadata at the same time β regardless of which folders the files are located in.
This allows you to uniformly tag a large number of files with the same characteristics or quickly make corrections to existing metadata.
Once you have selected at least two files in the Files module or Collections module, the "Mass Change"
action appears in the toolbox:

Please note
Rights: If the "Mass change" action is not displayed, you may not have the necessary rights.
Display: Depending on the use case, your administrator can also activate the mass change for other modules.
Start mass change
By default, you can perform mass changes in the Files module or in the detail view of a collection:
Open the Files module or the detail view of a collection.
Select at least two files using the checkboxes.
Click on the "Mass change" button
in the toolbox.The "Mass change" view opens:
On the left, you will see your selected files.
In the middle, you will see all groups and metadata fields that are also available in the detail view of a file.
Tagging
Click in a metadata field to enter the desired values. You can fill in as many metadata fields and groups as you like.Type of change
Once you have entered a value, the Type of change drop-down menu next to the metadata field becomes active. Here you can specify how the system should handle your new values.Delete all values
If necessary, activate the "Delete all values for this field" checkbox to delete all previously saved values from this field.Click on the "Save" button
in the toolbox to apply all changes.Alternatively, click the "Reset" button
in the toolbox to discard all changes.

The saving process runs in the background β depending on the number of selected files, saving may take a few seconds.
Tip
If you are unsure which values have already been saved for a file, click on the file in the overview on the left to open its detail view.
Clicking on the "Back" arrow
will take you back to the mass change.
Type of change
The type of change determines how previously saved values are handled. You can decide this for each metadata field.
For example, you can specify that the new values you are currently setting should be added to the previous values. Or you can enter values that you want to delete from a specific field.
Please note: The available "types of change" vary depending on the type of metadata field.
Delete all values
If you activate the "Delete all values for this field" checkbox for a metadata field, the field and type of change will be grayed out. This allows you to specify that all previously saved values from this field should be deleted:

Why is the mass change not displayed?
The action in the toolbox is only displayed once you have selected at least two files. If it still does not appear, you may not have the rights to perform mass changes.How many files can I change at once?
There is no fixed upper limit. However, if you change a large number of files at once, the process may take a little longer.What happens with the "Delete values from list" type of change?
All specified values in the list will be removed. This only affects fields with multiple values.Can I accidentally overwrite existing metadata?
Yes. But only if you select the "Overwrite existing values" change type for a metadata field. Then existing content will be replaced.Can I undo changes?
